Bethlehem of Sand

Las Canteras Beach hosts every year one of the great events of Christmas in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: a Bethlehem of Sand unique in Europe, with great tradition and that brings together different sculptors of international prestige.

Visits to this unique nativity scene are free of charge, although funds are raised at the site for the city’s soup kitchens. The location of the Nativity Scene, in the surroundings of La Puntilla, at one of the ends of Las Canteras, provides priceless postcards at Christmas time. That is, the coexistence between visitors to these true works of art with the bathers enjoying the beach, with the particular climate enjoyed by the capital of Gran Canaria in December.
