Park of San Telmo

Located next to calle Triana and the Estación de Guaguas, parque de San Telmo shelters, among its trees, treasures such as the ermita de San Telmo and the Quiosco Modernista.

The site now occupied by this park has played a key role in the history of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: this was where the city wall that protected it to the north once stood, and it was also the location of the city’s first pier, built at the beginning of the 19th century.

In fact, the sea reached this point when the ermita de San Telmo, patron saint of sailors, was founded in the 16th century. Featuring one of the most beautiful altarpieces on the island of Gran Canaria, it is an example of Mudéjar architecture with a Gothic-Renaissance doorway.

Designed in 1876, parque de San Telmo features several kiosks. The most important for its architectural value is the Quiosco Modernista, a small pavilion designed by architect Rafael Massanet in 1923. It operates as a café with an outdoor terrace. The Quiosco de la Música hosts some concerts by the Banda Municipal, while the former Quiosco de la Prensa now serves as a Tourist Information Point.
