Los Dolores Festivities

The festivities in honour of Nuestra Señora de Los Dolores—declared City Festivities—are held in September in the Schamann neighbourhood, in Ciudad Alta, with Plaza de Don Benito and the Church of Nuestra Señora de Los Dolores serving as the main meeting points. The programme of events includes a romería, in which participants, dressed in traditional Canarian costume, parade through the main streets of the neighbourhood, which are adorned with decorative carpets on the principal day of the celebrations.

The figure of the writer Benito Pérez Galdós is very present in this lively neighbourhood, where streets and squares bear the names of his novels and characters.
