Las Canteras – El Confital Bay Coastal Trail

In just two hours, it is possible to walk the trail that connects the El Atlante monument, at the northern exit of the city, with El Confital Bay, in La Isleta. This seven-kilometre route allows visitors to enjoy all the attractions of Las Canteras and El Confital beaches, while discovering aspects of their geology, biology and history.

Along the way, fifteen interpretative panels and tables guide walkers, explaining—both in Spanish and English—the geological history of El Rincón, the surf culture of Guanarteme, the origin of the name La Cícer, the colour of the sand, and the existence of large predators in the past.

The route also recounts the evolution of Los Lisos, a section of Las Canteras that turned to stone as a result of climate change, and reveals the existence, 18,000 years ago, of a lagoon similar to that of Maspalomas at the level of Punta Brava.

The different types of natural habitats and the Cueva de los Canarios, in El Confital, are also described along this guided route, which additionally recalls a very special film shoot that took place in these waters between 1954 and 1955: that of the legendary movie Moby Dick.
