On Avenida Marítima, between the San Cristóbal neighbourhood and the Vegueta Cemetery, the undulating and spiral forms of Lady Harimaguada, the iconic sculpture by the Gran Canaria artist Martín Chirino, engage in a visual dialogue with the sea.
Made of white-painted steel, the sculpture was inaugurated in 1996 and has since become a true symbol of the city. In fact, the awards of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival are small-scale reproductions of this sculpture.
Lady Harimaguada is one of several works by the artist that can be seen in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, both in its streets—such as La espiral del viento in Triana—and at the Castillo de La Luz – Fundación de Arte y Pensamiento Martín Chirino.
