Insular Theater Hall

Sala Insular de Teatro, located next to the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, offers a year-round programme of theatre for all ages, educational concerts, music and dance.

The origins of this venue are linked to what was once the Centro Insular de Cultura, a multidisciplinary space that opened in May 1987 within the complex formed by the former asylum of the Congregación de las Hermanitas de los Ancianos Desamparados and the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados.

After numerous setbacks, the partial collapse of the structure in 2002 forced the closure of this important cultural facility, which had been a major driving force for culture on the island. In 2017, the venue reopened—on the site of the former church—as Sala Insular de Teatro, dedicated to the promotion and presentation of the performing arts.
