Iglesia de San Lorenzo

The iglesia de San Lorenzo, the second oldest parish in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, boasts a rich religious, artistic and cultural heritage. The original hermitage, with a single nave, was built in the first half of the 17th century in the southern part of the settlement of Lugarejo, the name initially given to this rural enclave. It was later known as San Lorenzo and remained an independent municipality until the 1940s.

The modest original hermitage gradually evolved over time. The most significant intervention took place in the 19th century, when demographic growth, agricultural prosperity and the availability of high-quality stone made it possible to build a new church.
