Church of San Francisco de Borja

The church of San Francisco de Borja, built in 1724 in Vegueta, is a remarkable example of sacred baroque architecture. It was the last of the historic churches to be built in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Its dome stands out, the first one built in the Canary Islands, decorated by the Gran Canarian painter Francisco de Rojas y Paz.

The history of this church is linked to the Society of Jesus, whose presence on the islands dates back to the 16th century.
