Culture, leisure and tradition come together in the city during the celebration of the Finaos, the name given locally to the festivities in remembrance of the deceased. Between 31 October and 2 November, the historic district of Vegueta hosts a variety of activities, including chestnut and pineapple roasting, as well as traditional music and dance. The old quarter also marks the eve of All Saints’ Day with a theatrical performance of Zorrilla’s Don Juan Tenorio.
In the San Lorenzo neighbourhood, the Noche de los Finaos (Night of the Finaos) brings residents together in the village square to pay tribute to the deceased.
