City of cinema

Stars such as Shirley MacLaine, Jessica Lange, Brad Pitt, Marion Cotillard, Uma Thurman and Cliff Richard & The Shadows have filmed in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The city has also hosted the filming of Spanish titles such as Palmeras en la nieve, El Niño, Como un relámpago, La isla interior, Cien años de perdón, Que parezca un accidente, Las ovejas no pierden el tren, REC 4: Apocalipsis or the Canary Islands film Mararía.

In recent years, the capital of Gran Canaria has become a very attractive location for the filming of major movie titles and series. Emblematic locations such as the Vegueta neighborhood, the Gabinete Literario or the surroundings of Las Canteras beach have been transformed into sets for national and international productions.

This link with the cinema has a precedent in some historical film shoots and with the presence of great stars in the 50s of the last century. In 1953, Moby Dick, directed by John Huston and starring Gregory Peck. And in 1954, Tirma, a production directed by Paolo Moffa and starring Marcelo Mastroianni and Silvana Pampanini.

Lovers of the seventh art have the possibility of touring the capital of Gran Canaria following in the footsteps of these films. And in the month of April, the city has been dressed in cinema for more than a quarter of a century with the celebration of the International Film Festival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
