Santa Catalina Park, central and cosmopolitan, is the city’s gateway for those arriving by sea from the Port of Las Palmas. Its strategic location—next to the cruise pier and the transport interchange, and very close to Las Canteras Beach—together with its terraces, kiosks and shops, and the wide range of activities it hosts throughout the year—from Carnival events to festivals, fairs and markets—make this space a key landmark in the city.
The historic Elder and Miller buildings located at one end of the park, which once housed British companies, reflect the close relationship between the port and the park. Due to its important role as a tourist centre, Casa Fataga (1920) and the Casa del Turismo (1945) were built here—an architectural ensemble in the Neo-Canarian style created by the brothers Néstor and Miguel Martín-Fernández de la Torre.
The terraces are the heart of Santa Catalina Park. Two sculptures located in front of them pay tribute to popular figures who form part of its history, such as Lolita Pluma, the “muse of tourism and artists, protector of animals”, and the betuneros (shoeshiners).
The park also features a children’s playground and a table games area, always lively, where games of chess, dominoes and cards are regularly played.
