The trade winds, the sea and the volcanic soil give the wines produced in Gran Canaria, from varieties unique in the world, a very special character. Many of these wines -which have a Protected Designation of Origin- come from the vineyards that since the 19th century have shaped the landscape of the area of Monte Lentiscal and Bandama, in Tafira, where the largest number of wineries in production on the island are concentrated.
Guided visits to these wineries, small family-run productions that combine tradition and modernity, offer experiences such as walking among vines that grow in volcanic soil; touring the wineries, some of which have an important ethnographic value; learning about the production methods; tasting and purchasing their wines and other local products, as well as events where there is wine and much more: music, exhibitions, crafts…
The Monte Lentiscal wineries are pioneers in the Canary Islands in this type of offer: since the early twentieth century they were already a place of “pilgrimage” for English tourists who stopped at the port and sought to taste its wines.
