At the southern entrance to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the messenger god of the depths of the sea welcomes visitors to the city. This is Exordio, el Tritón, a sculpture by the Gran Canaria artist Manolo González, which rises on a viewpoint overlooking La Laja Beach.
The artist drew inspiration from the poem Las Rosas de Hércules by writer Tomás Morales to design El Tritón, a nine-metre-high figure that points towards the city with its right hand while sounding a conch shell with its left.
From the viewpoint, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the entire eastern coastline of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, extending as far as the volcanic peninsula of La Isleta.
