El Atlante is a monumental work created in 1986 by the Gran Canaria sculptor Tony Gallardo, located atop a cliff in the El Rincón area, at the northern entrance to the city.
The artist drew inspiration from the myth of the disappearance of Atlantis between magma and sea to shape this sculpture, made from lava taken from the volcanoes of La Isleta. The work—a figure standing 8.5 metres high with its arms raised towards the sky—rests on a wide platform covered with picón (volcanic gravel).
From the El Atlante viewpoint, which can be reached either on foot via a pedestrian walkway starting from the Las Canteras promenade or by car, visitors can admire the sculpture up close while enjoying breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, the city and the bay.
In the surroundings of the viewpoint there is also a kiosk built on a structure that integrates volcanic stone and earth, blending harmoniously with the natural landscape.
