Rectorate of the ULPGC

The institutional headquarters of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) is located in an emblematic building. Built between 1919 and 1925 in front of the Guiniguada ravine, at the end of a series of houses belonging to the capital’s bourgeoisie, it was the first Secondary School in the province of Las Palmas. In 1937, without changing its architecture, it was transformed into a Military Hospital, until the construction of a modern hospital in the upper part of the city.

In 1993 the building was renovated to house the Rectorate of the ULPGC and to build the Paraninfo, a hall where the most solemn events of the university are held. It is also the stage for concerts, cultural events and academic meetings.

On the first floor of the institutional headquarters is the ULPGC Art Gallery, which exhibits temporary exhibitions. Throughout the building you can admire paintings and sculptures of contemporary art, mostly by Canarian artists, works that belong to the heritage of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
