The cliffs

San Nicolás, San Juan, San Roque, San Antonio and San Francisco, five picturesque and popular neighborhoods with a strong identity, spread out over the old city, towards the heights, in groups of self-built houses, with a thousand colors and always watchful over the urban center.

They are the cliffs, the result of the spontaneous growth of the city, which offer a postcard image, with houses that sit on mountains and slopes. A singular image already captured by the indigenous painter Jorge Oramas in his canvases and that has attracted in recent years the attention of photographers and tourists, who with their lenses have portrayed the particular chromatic map and the layout of the houses in these neighborhoods.

Walking through them is equivalent to entering a labyrinth of narrow streets on a slope, stairs that go up and down and that give, every few steps, views of the city and the Atlantic. They are a good way to discover the most popular side of the capital of Gran Canaria.
