Founded in 1949, the first team of the island, Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, competes in the top soccer leagues. Its “home” is, since 2003, the Gran Canaria Stadium, located in the Ciudad Deportiva Siete Palmas. Before that, it was the Estadio Insular, converted into a park for the enjoyment of the citizens, where there are still traces that recall some of the milestones of this outstanding club and its protagonists. The Plaza de España -in the heart of the city- is the place where the fans of the “yellow club” celebrate their victories.
