Plaza de Canarias – La Marquesina – Crane Titán

Plaza de Canarias connects Santa Catalina Park with the sea and the port. This spacious square, which hosts a wide range of activities and events, is home to the Santa Catalina Interchange, an underground bus station served by both urban and interurban transport services.

By the seafront, two structures recall the importance of this site in the development of the Port of Las Palmas and the city itself: La Marquesina and the Titán crane.

The original La Marquesina was installed in 1917 as a gateway to welcome passengers arriving in Gran Canaria by ship. It disappeared in 1965. On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the port, in 2009, the Port Authority erected a replica close to its original location.

As part of this commemoration, the Titán crane was also restored—an outstanding example of the city’s industrial archaeology. It was inaugurated in 1935 and remained in operation until 1975. It is the last of the four Titán-class cranes used since the late 19th century in the construction of the port.

Plaza de Canarias is bordered by Santa Catalina Maritime Park, a broad viewpoint offering panoramic views of the harbour landscape.
