Christmas

Christmas is celebrated in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with a wide program of activities and entertainment and leisure options, ranging from the most traditional ones, such as nativity scenes, street markets, Christmas concerts and the Three Kings Parade, to unique proposals, such as the Bethlehem of Sand on the beach of Las Canteras.

Concerts
The city is full of live music at this time of the year. In addition to the most typical Christmas proposals, such as Christmas carols and the performances of different choirs in churches and other venues, there are others that have already become a tradition: the concerts of Los Gofiones and La Trova, two groups that offer the public that gathers in the Santa Ana square popular songs from the islands and Latin America.

Christmas from the beach
Sunny days are a characteristic of this holiday season in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Travelers of all nationalities pass through the beach of Las Canteras and enjoy the water, the sand and the sun in a way unthinkable in their places of origin.

The image of the Bethlehem of Sand next to a big Christmas tree in the promenade of Las Canteras is one of the most characteristic postcards of this festivity in the city. It is an ephemeral nativity sculpted in the area of La Puntilla by sand sculptors from different countries.

Las Canteras is also the stage to welcome the new year. Thousands of people join this celebration by the sea, which includes fireworks and concerts at one end of the avenue that runs along the beach.

Three Kings’ Night
The eve of the Three Kings begins with their particular reception to their Majesties of the East in the Port of Las Palmas. It continues with the parade, which runs from end to end the urban center of the capital of Gran Canaria, and ends in a very special way: with the night of the Three Kings around Triana Street, where thousands of people say goodbye to the holidays in an evening with late closing of stores, concerts until midnight and lots and lots of animation in the street.
